The unemployment rate dropped to 3.5 percent as the number of unemployed decreased by 275,000 to 5.8 million. U.S. employers also added 136,000 jobs in September, according to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics report. Average monthly job growth has slowed since 2018, as employers have become more cautious in hiring. But the labor market is still healthy. Data released by ADP and Moody's Analytics show private-sector employment rose by 135,000 jobs last month.
